JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Thanks to the steepest drop in gas prices in the history of the American gasoline market, Missouri now boasts the third-cheapest gasoline in the country. With an average price of $2.57 per gallon for regular unleaded, according to the American Automobile Association’s (AAA) Daily Fuel Gauge Report, the Show-Me State is an even more attractive travel destination for travelers seeking affordable yet extraordinary vacations.
To help travelers make the most of fall and holiday vacation values, the Missouri Division of Tourism has launched an all-new version of its Web site, VisitMO.com, and will be running two promotions offering wine country bed and breakfast and football tailgating vacation packages.
Radio and print advertisements urge consumers to visit the Missouri Tourism Web site, where they can answer Missouri trivia questions and register to win one of four Wine Country Bed & Breakfast packages, including an overnight stay at a bed and breakfast in Missouri Wine Country, two tickets to the Holiday Fair Wine Trail, a $50 gas card, $50 dining certificate and a wine gift basket.
A second fall promotion will feature a tailgate package to the St. Louis Rams game against the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 30, and to a Kansas City Chiefs game on Dec. 14 against the San Diego Chargers. Each tailgate package includes an overnight hotel stay, two tickets to the game, two T-shirts, a cooler bag and either an apron or tailgate combo set.
The VisitMO.com Web site also features links to coupons that can be downloaded and redeemed at hotels, restaurants and attractions across the state.
“Missouri continues to offer outstanding values for travelers seeking affordable vacation opportunities,” said R.B. “Bob” Smith, interim director, Missouri Division of Tourism. “With gas prices at their lowest level in more than a year, consumers are expressing interest in making getaway trips and now is a great time to get online and plan a Missouri vacation.”
The Camarillo, Calif.-based Lundberg Survey reports that the average price of gasoline has dropped more than 35 cents per gallon since September 26, the largest price drop in the history of the American gasoline market, according to nearly six decades of data gathering.
Additionally, a survey recently released by Travelocity finds that despite concerns about the economy, 78 percent of respondents plan to travel for at least one of the upcoming holidays. Sixty-two percent are planning a leisure trip in addition to their holiday plans.
The Missouri Division of Tourism’s Fall Getaway is open to individuals who are 18 years of age or older. Void where prohibited by law. No purchase is necessary to enter. Entries will be accepted via online registration at VisitMO.com/Getaway.
