PARK CITY, Utah--- A delegation representing the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Missouri Film Office and Missouri Division of Tourism will be in Park City this week to attend the Sundance Film Festival and promote the Show-Me State as an ideal location for filmmakers.
Notable motion pictures recently shot in Missouri include Debra Granik’s “Winter’s Bone,” which will makes its World Premiere at Sundance 2010 in the U.S. Dramatic Competition, and Jason Reitman’s “Up in the Air,” winner of the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay.
“Missouri offers numerous benefits for filmmakers who not only seek the perfect locations, but also want access to talented production crews and need to make the most of their production budgets,” said Jerry Jones, director, Missouri Film Office.
“Missouri is proud to provide locations for such notable and critically acclaimed films and we look forward to hosting many more productions in the future,” adds Katie Steele Danner, deputy director, Missouri Department of Economic Development and director, Missouri Division of Tourism.
Home to the rugged Ozark Mountains, more than 7,000 natural caves, picturesque small towns, prairies and major cities, Missouri features location settings appropriate for nearly any production, and the cost of doing business in Missouri is significantly lower than in other parts of the country.
Missouri’s location in the Central United States is easily accessible via coast-to-coast airline service via St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, Columbia and Branson. Talented crews and production companies are also abundant in the state’s three major cities—St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia and Springfield—and in and around Branson, the live music show capital of the world.
The State of Missouri also offers state tax credits to qualified film production companies for up to 35 percent of the amount expended in Missouri for production or production-related activities to facilitate film production in Missouri. The Missouri Film Commission offers location scouting services; information about weather, production services, crew, talent, facilities and equipment; connections to support services such as hotels, caterers and transportation; and coordinates communication for producers with federal, state and local officials, as well as businesses and individuals, to ensure film shoots are trouble-free.
